Many men find ourselves wondering what our role and responsibilities are in these times. How do we best care for the wellbeing and thriving of ourselves and others in these fraught times? Those men pondering these questions are ideally positioned to play crucial roles Waging Peace in community. This is an offering for people interested in an experience of engaging in physical practices and purposeful storytelling to explore individual and collective wholeness and purpose. It is the beginning of a series of offerings that will help men identify and navigate the journey toward healing and wholeness that is necessary to be the calm that helps others access their own wholeness and healing.
This offering is inspired by the physical practices of Zen training which can support healing, wholeness, and discernment for people on healing and spirit paths of all types. Designed for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, the experience is meant to expose participants to ongoing practices that may be of support to their journey. Religious adherence to Buddhism is not required.
What to Expect:
A guided experience of Zen inspired practice paired with storytelling. Practices will include:
Resonant Breath Meditation: An accessible form of seated meditation.
Meditative Movement and other Zen inspired practices
Simple forms of storytelling to unearth the wisdom you need now.
Meet Your Guides
Ed Heisler
(HE, HIM)
At the very core of his being, Ed is a storyteller, spirit doula, and healer whose practice and teaching is rooted in curiosity, love, joyful learning with others, and his own journey with healing and spirit reconnection. With a background in violence prevention and peacemaking, Ed’s daily work focuses on nourishing individual and community connection to spirit, healing, and wholeness as a pathway to thriving for future generations–and ourselves. Ed (Koshin) Heisler was Ordained as a Rinzai Zen Priest in Anko-in, an Independent Branch Temple of Chozen-ji by Norma Ryuko Kawelokū Wong Roshi in 2022. He loves learning and sharing spirit and wholeness practices with others. Ed’s core practices include Zazen (meditation), Kado (flower arrangement), Ten Step Tai Ji, Okyo (Chanting), Shodo (Calligraphy), Reiki, and everyday storytelling that connects the depths of our wisdom, ancestors, and spirit.
Bryan Lyda
(HE, HIM)
Bryan is a cultivator of community and well-being, devoted to moving with men towards healing and wholeness. Through his own stumblings through life, he believes in moving beyond knowledge and education to become who we truly are. Bryan’s work is focused on nurturing connection with self, spirit, and hope as a means of showing up for our communities and meeting the moments we encounter. As a man imperfectly navigating his own 40’s, he seeks to invite other men into their best selves, embracing their sacred responsibility to both ancestors and descendants.
