200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Deepen Your Practice and Share It with Others

Our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training stands on a balanced tripod of Raja Yoga, sustainability as healing, and a life of service. Rooted in the spirit of the Northshore and the depths of ancient wisdom, our curriculum is built upon three core pillars:

  • Pillar I: Yoga Fundamentals & The Eight Limbs

Root yourself in the timeless wisdom of Raja Yoga through an embodied study of philosophy, anatomy, and the Eight Limbs as a map for modern living.

  • Pillar II: Sustainability & Nature Study

Ground your practice in the local ecosystem through intentional nature study, embodied herbalism, and mentorship designed for a lifetime of vitality and resilience.

  • Pillar III: Spiritual Connection & Service

Discover the power of your unique wholeness as an integral part of an improved world through heart-centered visioning and rituals of community support.

The Trauma-Conscious Foundation

Yoga is a living science that has maintained its relevance for millennia by evolving to meet the needs of the times. In our current world, we recognize that we are all touched by some form of trauma—whether personal, cultural, intergenerational, or communal. These experiences can make the world feel unsafe, creating obstacles to our health, our relationships, and our inherent sense of wholeness.

Why Trauma-Conscious Training Matters

Being trauma-informed is no longer optional; it is an essential skill for the modern guide. We believe that understanding how trauma affects the nervous system is the key to fostering true compassion and empathy. By learning specific strategies to guide yoga through a trauma-conscious lens, we ensure that our practice becomes a bridge to collective healing and growth.

A Specialized Regional Leader

Svälja is a specialized trauma-conscious yoga school—one of the few in the region to integrate nervous-system-informed teaching into every pillar of our 200-hour YTT. We do not view trauma-informed care as an "add-on" module, but as the very soil in which our entire curriculum is rooted.

Qualified, Comprehensive, Creative

This program exceeds Yoga Alliance standards, ensuring you graduate with the skill and confidence to guide others through cueing, adjustments, and modifications with ease. Beyond the technical, we offer an immersive exploration of Yoga that deepens your connection to the world and honors your unique role within it. We believe everyone has a distinct purpose; our mission is to provide the tools and heart-centered support to help you live yours fully.

By joining this training, you aren't just learning to teach postures; you are learning to facilitate a space where positive change and healing become possible for everyone.

How We Reach 200 Hours

Our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training is a comprehensive journey designed to balance deep in-person immersion with flexible, self-paced study. Your certification hours are earned through a combination of the following pillars:

The Core Curriculum

  • In-Person Weekends: Our deep-dive immersions for hands-on learning and philosophy.

  • Community Practicums: The opportunity to find your voice and practice teaching in a supportive environment.

  • Online Asana Assignments: Guided home practice to deepen your physical embodiment.

  • Monthly Study Group: Consistent touchpoints for connection and academic support.

Asana: Practice and Perceive

Essential self-paced hours. These hours are designed for you to complete at your convenience each month. They offer critical space for reflection on the "nuts and bolts" of a consistent mat practice. You can enjoy guided sessions from your Lead Teacher from the comfort of your own home while logging essential program completion hours.

Study Group

Monthly cohort connection. This once-monthly offering is an opportunity to connect with your cohort members and a rotating instructor. Together, you will work on preparatory material, receive support for program questions, and build lasting relationships within your community.

The Practicum

Your teaching evolution. The practicum is the culmination of your studies, where you move from student to facilitator. Through a series of scheduled in-person sessions, community observations, and external practice teaching, you will refine a trauma-conscious class that reflects your unique creative essence. Supported by peer feedback and professional mentorship, you will gain the confidence and experience necessary to share the gift of yoga with others in any environment.

Testimonials

  • “My yoga is everywhere. My yoga is in everything. I signed up for Yoga Teacher Training as a way to commit to and deepen my own practice. I absolutely gained that and while I was at it I have found community, accountability, opportunities to reach beyond where I ever would have gone on my own, and guidance as I faced my reluctance. I have been inspired over and over. Thank you to Svalja Yoga School for this gift.” -J.D.

  • “This program exceeded my expectations in preparing me to guide and teach a yoga class. They gave me the tools, resources and awareness of how to better nurture others while at the same time caring for myself. I will carry these values and lessons with me throughout my lifetime and bring them into my teachings! Thank you for such a wonderful experience and I highly recommend this school to anyone with aspirations of becoming a yoga teacher!” -S.L.

  • "It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to convey how Svalja has changed the fibers of my being. I went in a loose set of strands splaying in every direction and came out a carefully woven rope with the tensile strength and flexibility of a tried and true halyard equipped on a seaward vessel, destined to sail on for eternity. From the lessons on herbalism, discussions of the Hero's Journey, dream tending sessions, to the silent retreat and everything in between; there wasn't a moment that wasn't impactful. Everyday I find a sense of gratitude for the knowledge, experience and support I've been given, as well as the sincere community I have found in my fellow cohort members and instructors alike."  -R.R.
