• Untangling the Voices

  I learned of my parts
  inside my City of Angels
  guides within mesmerized and terrorized by my life
  speaking me into existence
  along my lifespan
  their voices a spindrift
  propelling me along
  my perpetual becoming

  And this is all of me
  each carries their own pearl of wisdom
  shining opalescent
  their heart beats only for me
  wrapped in a womb of their own universe
  threads, constellations
  across the galaxy of my being
  each wants to be known, heard, seen
  there are burdens they carry
  and ways only they walk
  that light up the forest floor within me
  each footstep bursting with the magic needed
  to awaken me

  (can you hear me?)
  All the voices call out in their own ways
  sometimes they shout, take the wheel, swerve

  Often I’m stepping across and over
  what seems to be crossed wires
  a jumble of lines that don’t make sense

  The wise ones have said we are the Great “I Am”
  I was I, thou was thou
  there is nothing I am not
  the splendor of recognition

  I know I am the Great Black Bear
  momma-force
  protector, comforter, lifter of heavy things
  only I can soothe
  untangle the voices from their ratty braid
  brush through the snarls until smooth
  gently stroke their foreheads
  and teach them the ancient lullabies
  until they are a chorus
  and I the conductor can only create
  the music of my Life
  if each voice can sing in the way
  they were born to.
